Hey, you.
Yep. You, the one overthinking your last audition.
The one wondering if that read was too much, too little, or just… absolutely not it.
The one comparing your voice to everyone else’s.
Take a breath with me.
Here’s the truth: you are doing better than you think.
I know how easy it is to get stuck in your head.
To hear that inner critic say:
“Why would they choose me?”
“That wasn’t good enough.”
And on and on.
But here’s the thing: you are not your inner critic.
That voice? It’s just fear trying to jam you up.
It thinks it’s protecting you… but really, it’s just getting in your way.
So what if, instead of pushing it down, you made peace with it?
What if you said, “Hey, inner critic, I see you… but I’ve got this.”
And then you hit send on that audition anyway.
You got back in the booth anyway.
You kept showing up anyway.
Because that’s where momentum lives.
That’s where confidence grows.
Not from perfection, but from practice.
From compassion.
From courage.
And to my brand-new voice actors, the ones just beginning to find their rhythm, their sound, their confidence:
You’re not behind. You’re blooming.
It’s okay if you don’t know all the VO lingo yet or you feel like everyone else is way further along. Every working pro you admire started precisely where you are. Unsure. Excited. Nervous. Learning.
So let yourself be a beginner. Play. Explore. Be messy. You’re not here to have it all figured out. You’re here to discover what your voice and inner storyteller can do. And believe me, it can do amazing things. You’re undoubtedly going to surprise yourself.
This work is personal. Vulnerable.
But it’s also magical, and it’s SO worth it.
Keep going. Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.
You’re not behind. You’re exactly where you need to be.
