The Voice Actors Studio, or as I affectionately call it, The Voice Over Mothership of Las Vegas, is celebrating a new beginning. A bigger, brand new studio, new coaches and new classes. Acting and Improv classes, oh my! I don’t know about you, but I’m inspired. I now have opportunities to hone my craft in ways I wasn’t even thinking about a year ago. Ok, I was afraid to think about. I’ve taken acting classes in the past, but I found on-camera work just wasn’t my thing. I found that telling a story in a small, intimate space, behind the mic, was my passion…intimately telling a story. But I didn’t realize just how much of myself I still have to give to my performance. I had a passion to DO voice over, but how much of a passion did I have to BE an Actor? Like it or not, Voice acting is acting, and acting requires you to stretch yourself and your imagination, and bare yourself to the world! In the immortal words of Sir John McClain, “Let Your Freak Flag Fly!!” Really? I just wanna read a radio spot and make it funny. NOT. There are many thousands of experienced actors and voice actors out there going after the same jobs that I am. I need to stand out. Not be like them, but be the absolute best actor I can be, ‘cause nobody sounds like me. Why be good when I can be great? So…improv and acting classes will make me a better voice actor, get me to come out of my introverted shell, and help me grow as a person in general. Yep, acting and improv classes do that, too.
