Joy’s Talent Spotlight: Abby Elvidge

February 1, 2019 By Joy Kingston 2 Comments

We all know and adore Abby Elvidge. She is one of our outstanding coaches at TVAS who shares her expertise in Audiobooks, Narration and Character genres. Abby has been acting since she was a little girl, beginning with performing Shakespearian theater in high school. In graduate school, she changed direction and delved into the environmental sciences by becoming a Paleobotanist. While all alone out in the Blackrock Desert, just north of Reno, Nevada, in the middle of a project, Abby had an epiphany. She realized her overwhelming need to find a creative venue. Abby came across an ad at UNLV for Voice Over Acting classes with Alice Whitfield. She continued her Voice Over education in Alice’s Voice Over master class. Soon after, Abby began taking classes with our Mama VO, Melissa Moats, going on to become one of our beloved coaches. Abby considers all the TVAS coaches as her family. And Melissa?…“a living and breathing vortex of good will and love!” Abby feels that social media is an invaluable resource when promoting your talents. She attributes LinkedIn to her being discovered by someone whose recommendations eventually led to Abby narrating a major best- seller. Just a few of her honors include being a judge for the past three years in several audiobook categories, as well as a Finalist for Audiobook Comedy Best Voiceover for “Whatever Happened to Prince Charming” by Willow Cross, and was an Audie Award Finalist in 2015 for “Gadzooks” along with another of our talented coaches, Jack de Golia. Abby and Jack are currently collaborating on a book coming out in December 2018. Abby also narrated A New York Time’s best- seller written by Mary Roach, “GRUNT: The Curious Science of Humans at War.” Currently, she is working on “The Shirley Letters from California Mines in 1851- 1852” and it should be released before the end of 2018. This project holds a special meaning to Abby as it is takes place close to the area where she worked as a Paleobotanist. Here is the Cover Art for this project:
Abby is especially proud of a memoir series she narrated by Marlayna Glynn about a young woman growing up in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Texas enduring difficult circumstances: “Overlay: A Tale of One Girl’s Life in 1970s Las Vegas,” “City of Angels” and “Big as All Hell and Half of Texas.” And now, Abby is soon to start working on Marlayna’s mother’s story: “Miss Perris Valley!” Abby advises to always do your very best for your clients and they will keep coming back. Her wish is to someday be the voice of a full-length documentary. As if Abby isn’t fabulous enough, she is also an award-winning endurance bicyclist, riding over 200 miles in just 12 hours! She won the Iron Butt Award for bicycling the most miles for a female at the Miles of Smiles fundraiser for St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital two years in a row. I personally cannot wait to take the Character Specialty Class coached by Abby and Jack. Abby, I enjoyed our conversation so very much, thank you!
