The Voice Over Community rocks. I swear; near or far, every voice actor I know is super talented and extremely giving. We help each other out. We refer each other work. We lend our studios/gear/whatever when a fellow talent is in a pinch or needs help, you name it!

But wait. Aren’t we competitors?! I don’t see it that way. More on that in a moment.

While we’re on the topic of ‘seeing,’ we had one of the most memorable days so far at TVAS on Good Friday. Make that GREAT Friday! 16 awesome kiddos from The Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation spent the day with us! They transcribed scripts to Braille and they each had a chance to record in our studio! We also did a show and tell… where we passed around mics, pop filters, acoustic sound foam, etc… so each child could “see” with their hands many common materials used in a recording studio. We enjoyed a foodtruck lunch on our patio, compliments of StripChezze! So delicious! And, at the end of the day, I learned a whole lot. I discovered new levels of communication. I’m in awe of these amazing kids and the way they ‘see’ the world.

A special thanks to Kristeena Cardoza and Jesse Estrada for helping me make their experience memorable!

So, competitive? We all ‘see’ scripts and the world differently. No one has a perspective quite like yours… Paired with the sound of your voice, and how you tell stories. If they’re looking for you, they’ll book YOU. If they’re looking for me, they’ll book ME. If you don’t book the gig, it doesn’t make you ‘less talented.’ It makes you a pineapple in a bowl full of fruit, when the casting director had an apple in mind! Both are tasty… Just different. This is how I ‘see’ it.
