Jacked Up: Deliver on Your Promises by Communicating

July 24, 2018 By Jack de Golia Leave a Comment

When my two sons were in high school, I had a rule: Tell me where you’re going and when you’ll be back. Call me BEFORE you’re late.

In any business, clients can’t read the minds of those they hire. But they do judge behavior. If you’re friendly, easy to work with, knowledgeable, and reliable, then repeat business is in the cards. [Read more…] about Jacked Up: Deliver on Your Promises by Communicating

TVAS – Community Love!

July 24, 2018 By Melissa Moats Leave a Comment

Last month we took some time out for some camaraderie and VO social-ness! We ate, we laughed, and enjoyed some live music out on our patio. This was our very first social at TVAS 2.0, and it did not disappoint! Many of you brought loved ones along to share your home-away-from-home, and had a chance show em what you’ve been doing. It’s so nice to share your playground with those closest to you. Between studio tours and getting to know your VO pals better, it was a beautiful day! Thank you all who could make it! Marketing Moats-ivation

July 10, 2018 By Melissa Moats Leave a Comment

I hope you know I think of you often. As your mentor, as I go through my day as a full-time voice actor I often catch myself thinking… This would be a great thing to share with my students! And ‘marketing – aka self promotion’ – is at the top of that list!

The most challenging part about the voice over industry, aside from being exceptional at your craft, which is a MUST, is letting people know you exist. Everyone loves the idea of becoming a voice over actor, but few are willing to put in the real hard work. We can love the idea of ‘anything,’ but if we don’t dedicate the time, energy, focus and consistency toward our goal, in this case becoming a pro talent, it’s just a daydream. I’m here to help you make this happen! [Read more…] about Marketing Moats-ivation

Mistakes

Most of us can’t remember what it was like when as babies, we learned to walk. In fact, research has found we can’t remember much about life before age 3. That’s probably a good thing.

There’s a lot of hard-knocks learning going on in those years. Wobble a step or two and crash. Reach for something shiny. Crash. Oops, my pants! Reboot. Nap. Ouch, my new teeth! I want to eat NOW!!!

So, welcome to the baby-step time for your VO career. Read two lines, muff a word, crash. Grab the mic, ooops, sorry. Cough into the mic, deafen the engineer and sicken your colleagues—oops, sorry. [Read more…] about Jacked up: Talk and Tips

Joy’s Talent Spotlight: Dustin Ebaugh

July 10, 2018 By Joy Kingston Leave a Comment

Hi my fellow voicers! In this issue I want to tell you about the amazing conversation I had with our talented coach, Dustin Ebaugh.  Dustin hails from Kansas and in Kansas is where he began his voiceover career.  For 14 years Dustin was a radio DJ and station program manager.  Dustin began booking voiceover jobs on the side for an ad agency.  His first VO job was voicing a Block Buster Video commercial. In addition, he began his eLearning company, TVandRadioVoices.com. In the early days Dustin cast himself and his friends to voice the jobs. [Read more…] about Joy’s Talent Spotlight: Dustin Ebaugh
